I had completely forgotten how thrilling it is to get lots of things you love for a pittance. And how exciting it is to see potential in things. And how musty some thrift stores smell.
But there was treasure to be found amid the mustiness. And I found it. Oh yes I did.
My loot. |
I'll show more in a bit, but for now, here are a few of my finds.
The cover of "The Farm." |
Exhibit A: An art book called "The Farm" with illustrations by Carl Larsson, a Swedish artist (and an interior designer, apparently. Clearly, a kindred spirit.) The cover photo above is the reason I bought the book. Its delicate color spoke to me. I think I might photocopy it and frame it (that's legal . . . right?).
Exhibit B: A lovely watercolor and, fitting for the current season, a partridge. I shall frame one and paint the other gold. Gold, darling. The color of luxury and all things blingy. Ahhh.
Exhibit C: Speaking of gold, check out that lettering. This, my dears, is a 1995 edition of that timeless luminary of tastiness, Joy of Cooking. Oh, and it was two dollars. As opposed to a similar edition which goes for about twenty-two dollars. Also, I've been reading it for the past two hours. I can't stop.
And last but not least: Exhibit D, which consists of two lovely silvery metal trays and a short glass candlestick. Silver trays are unendingly functional. They can be mounted on a wall, set on a coffee-table, or used as a catch-all for make-up and perfume on a vanity. These particular trays, however, will most likely show up to serve finger food at our next party.

Next up: Books (of the comic, childhood, and magical varieties), a teacup and saucer, a china creamer and sugar bowl, and gorgeous green-tinted glass jars.
that looks like so much fun! did you go thrifting for new furniture yet?
ReplyDeleteNot yet! We'll wait a bit to do that, but it'll happen!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds..and I love your loot pic. Every time I go thifting, I gaze at my loot for a while before putting it away. Such a good feeling ;)
ReplyDeleteRebecca - me too! I left everything on the table for a few days because I couldn't bear to put it all away. :)
