Do the Next Thing

I worry about the future (what should happen, if I can make anything happen, what I can make happen, what I want to do).

I worry about the past (what I've done, what I should have done, what I shouldn't have said, what ought to have happened).

And then I wonder why I'm depressed and exhausted.

But when I focus on the present and just do the next thing (whether that's doing the dishes, or writing a blog post, or making a bed), I find peace. Because that's where God is working in my life.

  1. This is so true...I get so overwhelmed when I think about everything I have to do, but God is teaching me that I need to just take things one moment at a time...

  2. "do the next thing" have you read elisabeth elliot's devotional entitled that? I really loved it. Great message :)

  3. I think I might have - I have her book "Keep a Quiet Heart." Such a good read.
