Aaaaaaaaand We're Back!

Hey there, everyone!

After traversing half the country, then meandering along the east coast for the past month and a half, I can safely say I'm back. How I've missed you all!

During my absence, we obtained an adorable apartment, saw both sides of the family, had a splendid Christmas and ate entirely too much fast food. Oh, and I visited King Arthur Flour Bakery and Shop in Vermont and quite nearly died. Died, I tell you, from sheer joy. It was fabulous.

So, yes. We have lots of catching up to do. Soon I'll share pics of our new apartment and a few other things, but for now I'll share a quick story of a little adventure I like to call "My Short-Lived New Year's Resolution."

I made a new year's resolution this year. This was a big deal because I had never made one before. They're just not usually my thing, but this year was different. This year, I knew it had to be done.

The resolution? No more cookbooks. I think you'll have to agree this was a decent idea. I lost count of them at around thirty five. If my acquisitions were to continue increasing at a steady rate, I'd be up to my eyeballs in cookbooks that I rarely used. Martha Stewart, Mark Bittman, and Ree Drummond deserved better.

So my resolution was to not buy any more cookbooks and instead focus on using the ones I had.

My resolution was going splendidly - seriously, so well - until I went to King Arthur Flour Bake Shop. You guys: it was made for people like me. I walked around and around in there for hours, completely dazzled by the specialty ingredients, the adorable cooking gadgets, the smell of baguettes and pastries.

And naturally, they had a cookbook aisle. And - heaven help me - I saw a book called, "Artesian Bread in Five Minutes a Day." And I picked it up and knew it would be mine.

The funny thing is, I regret nothing. In a few days I'll be telling you just how much I've been enjoying this baking book, but for now I'll leave you with this little gem: carbs, y'all. They'll win me over every time!

  1. I have a pizza crust recipe from that book, and it is great! I always wondered what the whole book would be like. You'll have to post pics of how your bread experiments - I mean, artisan breads - turn out! I've heard they're tricky but once you get the hang of it, you'll be addicted forever ;)

  2. Anything made with yeast is usually a tricky bugger. I need to do a little more troubleshooting, but I'm LOVING the results I've gotten so far! I'll be sure and post something about it soonly!

  3. So I'm just now seeing this post on your blog (what can I say? I've been behind on some of the blogs I follow so I'm now catching up!), and I have to say, my mom has that book and it is awesome. The basic recipe makes such yummy bread....we have it quite often. :)

  4. It does! It's such a simple idea and so amazing. I really want to try their recipe for sticky buns! At some point, I really want to do a post about that bread.
